Faster internet is coming to Martin County, and it's a real investment — not a vague promise. Wire 3, a Florida-based fiber provider, is putting $53 million into building a high-speed fiber network across the county.
The buildout is set to reach more than 53,000 residents and businesses, with the initial footprint covering Stuart, Sewall's Point and Ocean Breeze. Wire 3 says construction kicks off this summer, with the first Martin County customers expected online as early as fall.
The headline number for internet nerds: speeds up to 10 gigabits per second, with symmetrical upload and download. That means your uploads are just as fast as your downloads — a big deal if you work from home, run a business, or push a lot of video and large files.
"Martin County is growing, and they deserve internet infrastructure that's built to keep pace," said Wire 3 CEO Jai Ramachandran.
This isn't Wire 3's first move on the Treasure Coast. The Martin County push builds on a combined $263 million the company has invested in neighboring St. Lucie and Indian River counties, bringing its total reach to more than 50 communities statewide.
Why it matters for the 772: more fiber means more competition, and more competition tends to mean better service and pricing for the rest of us. For a region adding residents and remote workers fast, reliable gigabit internet is becoming basic infrastructure — right up there with roads and power.
If you're in the early service area, keep an eye out this fall. The rest of the county should follow as the network expands.
